Annie Bielski (b. 1990) builds her paintings through accumulation and erasure, working from observation, memory, and emotion. Her practice is physical and intuitive—she stains, scrapes, and layers acrylic, oil, wax crayon, and Flashe into textured surfaces that blur abstraction and representation. Bielski received a BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and an MFA from the University at Buffalo (SUNY). She has held solo exhibitions at North Loop West (now IZZY LEE, Los Angeles, CA), SEPTEMBER (Kinderhook and Hudson, NY), Rachel Uffner Gallery (New York, NY), the University at Buffalo (Buffalo, NY), and Paris London Hong Kong (Chicago, IL), with a forthcoming solo show at Chozick Family Art Gallery (New York, NY) in Fall 2026. Her work has appeared in group exhibitions at Abattoir Gallery (Cleveland, OH), North Loop (Williamstown, MA), Chozick Family Art Gallery (New York, NY), Lodos (Mexico City, MX), and elsewhere. Bielski also maintains an active writing practice, presenting at SEPTEMBER, the Museum of Modern Art, Rachel Uffner Gallery, and CANADA, conducting interviews for The Creative Independent, and contributing essays to the monographs Molly Zuckerman-Hartung: Comic Relief and Elbert Joseph Perez: Barking at the Moon. Over the past decade she has collaborated with musician Jenny Hval—performing across the US and Europe in her band and contributing album art and music-video visuals to Hval's 2022 album Classic Objects. Her work has been covered by ArtNews, Hyperallergic, MTV, and The New York Times. She has taught painting and drawing at the University of New Mexico, the University at Buffalo, and SUNY Albany, and currently lives and works in Upstate New York.
