Sara Jimenez

Sara Jimenez, born in Canada, received a BA from the University of Toronto and an MFA from Parsons the New School for Design in New York, NY. Her work explores the material embodiment of deep transcultural memories. As a diasporic Filipinx-Canadian artist, she is interested in materializing invisible narratives around origins and home, loss and absence. Jimenez works in sculpture, collage, and performance to create visual metaphors that allude to mythical environments and reimagined artifacts. Each project or series of works has its own materials specific to its content. She has participated in selected exhibitions at Rachel Uffner Gallery, New York, NY; El Museo del Barrio, New York, NY; Morgan Lehman Gallery, New York, NY; BRIC Gallery, Brooklyn, NY; The Brooklyn Museum, Brooklyn, NY; The Bronx Museum, Bronx, NY; and Smack Mellon, Brooklyn, NY, among others. She has performed at numerous venues, including The Dedalus Foundation, The Noguchi Museum, Jack, The Glasshouse, and Dixon Place. Her selected artist residencies include Brooklyn Art Space, Wave Hill’s Winter Workspace, the Bronx Museum’s AIM program, Yaddo, BRIC Workspace, Art Omi, Project for Empty Space, LMCC’s Workspace, and Bemis. Her work is part of the permanent collection of the Ford Foundation Center for Social Justice. Selected awards and grants include NYFA’s Canadian Women's Artist Award, Canada Council for the Arts’ Explore and Create and Travel Grants, and BRIC’s Colene Brown Art Prize. Jiminez lives and works in Brooklyn, NY.
