Sofía del Mar Collins

Sofía del Mar Collins, born in 1995 in San Juan, Puerto Rico, completed her MFA in Studio Art at Hunter College in New York, NY (2021). Collins creates projects across painting, drawing, soft sculpture, installation, video, and performance that engage spatial dynamics and material circularities where boundaries between the birth and decay of images flood from bodily affect towards a changing, interstitial landscape. She held her most recent solo exhibition, To Turn Into Rain and Fall Again, at Rachel Uffner Gallery in New York, NY (2024). Previously, she mounted her first solo show, Nadie in Casa, at Souvenir 154 in San Juan, PR (2023). Her recent group exhibitions include MECAnismos, Santo Domingo, D.R (2024) via Souvenir 154 , Cortar, Coser, Quebrar, Cuidar, Quemar at satellite exhibition in Casa Aboy, San Juan, PR (2024) via Souvenir 154; Tamo Aquí/We Here at Embajada, San Juan, PR (2022); En Busca del Paisaje Perdido at El Nuevo Hidrante, San Juan, PR (2022); Extra Terrestrial at Rachel Uffner Gallery, New York, NY (2022); Paadmaan Video Event Edition #2, curated by Foad Alijani and Greg Leshé at Sharif Gallery, Tehran, Iran (2021); Reclamar el Suelo, Declamar la Tierra, curated by Arte-Suelo-Ser, at Hidrante, San Juan, PR (2021); Common Ground at the Children’s Museum of the Arts, New York, NY (2019-2020); and The Endless Editions Biennial: Optimism, curated by Lukaza Branfman-Verissimo at EFA Project Space, New York, NY (2018). Collins graduated with the Geraldine Putnam Prize for Visual Arts (2017) from Sarah Lawrence College, where she concentrated her BA studies in Sociology and Visual Arts. Sofía currently lives and works in San Juan, PR.
